10-Team Mock Draft From #8 Position (8/9/2024)

I used the FantasyPros.com Draft Simulator for the mock draft this time. It lets you import your settings from your fantasy football league, and the computer-based picks are a lot more reasonable than the ones on NFL.com, which was giving me distorted results because of teams picking Defenses and Kickers in Round 7-8 to complete starting lineups, rather than waiting until the end of the draft like in normal drafts. For comparison, you can look at the NFL.com mock draft I did from the #8 position yesterday. FantasyPros also gives a draft rating. I got a B- (82 out of 100) for this mock.

Pick 1.08: Amon-Ra St. Brown WR. The last one left of the Big Eight left. I'll have to try a draft from the #9 spot next; so that I can compare options when the top eight players are gone.

Pick 2.03: Jonathan Taylor RB. Fantasy Pros suggested Puka Nacua here. Travis Etienne and Kyren Williams were other options. I prefer getting an RB who has shown RB1 upside rather than doubling up on WRs with my first two picks.

Pick 3.08: Rachaad White RB. Fantasy Pros suggested I would have been better off drafting Drake London here, and White's rushing efficiency is abysmal; so I probably shouldn't keep drafting him this high. If I were going to draft a WR, I think maybe I would prefer Jaylen Waddle here, who has a better resume than London. Mike Evans, Jalen Hurts, and Sam La Porta were also on the board at this spot.

Pick 4.03: Cooper Kupp WR. FP suggested Lamar Jackson here and preferred Mike Evans and Nico Collins over Kupp, but if he has an injury-free season, he might still have WR1 upside or at least be as good as Puka Nacua, who is being drafted two rounds earlier. If I had taken a WR in Round 3, I could have grabbed James Cook or Alvin Kamara here. FP Projections suggest that would work better for me.

Pick 5.08: DeVonta Smith WR. This was FP's suggestion. Other options for other positions were C.J. Stroud, Trey McBride, and Aaron Jones.

Pick 6.03: Mark Andrews TE. FP suggested Stroud here. Tee Higgins and Amari Cooper were WRs available. I'm happy getting Andrews in the 6th round, I think I took him in the 4th last year.

Pick 7.08: Kyler Murray QB. I think this is a good spot to grab the last non-rookie running QB. Zamir White and Najee Harris were next off the board.

Pick 8.03: Javonte Williams RB. Looks like the lead RB in Denver and now another year removed from his injury. Seems like a better bet than Tony Pollard or Tyjae Spears who are probably in time shares. Christian Kirk and Chris Godwin are still on the board here.

Pick 9.08: Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR. Probably a reach, but I didn't like the options here. Joe Burrow and Brian Robinson Jr were the other suggestions. I thought about taking Justin Tucker here, but quickly affirmed that's just crazy.

Pick 10.03: Jayden Daniels QB. The other running QB that was left. More exciting than taking Devin Singletary or Austin Ekeler, Dak Prescott, or Kyle Pitts.

Pick 11.08: Jerome Ford RB. The other RB option here is Chase Brown, who is technically behind Zack Moss on the depth chart. Not sure whether D'Onta Foreman is going to come back to take over the #1 spot for Cleveland. Courtland Sutton and Dallas Goedert are still available.

Pick 12.03: Brock Bowers TE. Seems like a good player to take a flyer on with the last positional pick.

Pick 13.08: Steelers DST. Missed out on the DSTs that I wanted, but there didn't seem to be any urgency to take a kicker here; so I grabbed the best remaining DST.

Pick 14.03: Ka'imi Fairbairn K.
