Real 10-Team Draft (NFL.com) From Position #10 (8/25/2024)

Yes, all my mock drafts were leading up to this, my actual fantasy football draft on NFL.com. Now, our league commissioner has built some idiosyncrasies into the league, which affected my draft slightly. In addition to being a PPR league, there is a 0.5 point bonus per rushing attempt. This kind of makes it like a half-PPR league in a way, but it also boosts the value of running QBs. Then, on top of that, there is an end-of-year payout to the team whose quarterbacks score the most points for the season. Similarly, there is an end-of-year payout for top-scoring defense through the season. There is a payout for the highest single-week running back performance, and a payout for the highest scoring week overall. I was randomly given the #10 position, which is probably my least favorite position this year, but I did notice that it does come with the bonus of getting the #1 waiver spot to start the season.

Pick 1.10: A.J. Brown WR (bye 5).

Pick 2.01: Saquon Barkley RB (bye 5). Team 9 took Jonathan Taylor, which kind of messed me up because I ended up with two Eagles as my first two picks. Had I realized I was going to do that, I guess I should have doubled up on WRs by taking Garrett Wilson, but the 0.5 PPA makes RBs more valuable in this league. I could have taken Barkley and Kyren Williams, I suppose.

Pick 3.10: Jalen Hurts QB (bye 5). With the bonus payout for QB scoring in mind, I grabbed what I expect to be the highest-scoring QB. Team 8 had already taken Josh Allen.

Pick 4.01: James Cook RB (bye 12). DaVonta Smith was still here, if I really wanted to continue loading up on the Eagles. De'Von Achane, with the upside of a possible top-RB week, was already gone by now; so it was either Cook or Kenneth Walker here.

Pick 5.10: Tee Higgins WR (bye 12). Ja'Marr Chase supposedly returned to practice today, but there's still a chance he'll hold out for week 1.

Pick 6.01: Malik Nabers WR (bye 11). I had Amari Cooper and DK Metcalf ranked higher on my cheat sheet, but I decided to go for the unknown upside of the rookie here. Rhamondre Stevenson seemed to be the best RB left; so I decided to wait on getting a third RB for now.

Pick 7.10: Rashee Rice WR (bye 6). Happy to grab Rice while my leaguemates were taking Keenan Allen and Christian Kirk ahead of me.

Pick 8.01: Javonte Williams RB (bye 14). I was getting worried about the RB depth left in this draft.

Pick 9.10: Jerome Ford RB (bye 10). Chase Brown went with the previous pick. I think Ford is at least a guaranteed starter for the beginning of the season, and maybe more than half the season.

Pick 10.01: Jayden Daniels QB (bye 14). Two other teams still hadn't drafted a QB by this point. True to almost all my other mock drafts, I take Daniels in Round 10.

Pick 11.10: Chuba Hubbard RB (bye 11). Grabbing another starting RB who may lose his job at some point during the season.

Pick 12.01: DeAndre Hopkins WR (bye 5). At this point, I should have taken a DST, given our league payouts, as my top two got taken before I got to pick again. Hopkins could still be an elite WR, but I have enough WRs on this team; so I could have afforded to miss out on him.

Pick 13.10: Taysom Hill TE (bye 12). Filling my TE hole with my secret pick. The bonus for rushing attempts should make Hill a top 10 TE easily, with the chance to win a week every once in a while.

Pick 14.01: Jets DST (bye 12)

Pick 15.10: Jake Bates K (bye 5). Last pick of the draft. Guessing none of my draftmates had him anywhere on their radar.
