10-Team Live Mock Draft (NFL.com) Position #10 (8/24/2024)
My first draft is tomorrow on NFL.com; so I needed to go back to that platform to start getting used to it. I was actually doing some positioning research during the draft; so I wasn't fully engaged on this one. Three or four of the other teams were on auto-draft; so it's not clear how useful this mock will be, but I did have some takeaways for myself. Most notably, the DST rankings on NFL.com are useless. I could have drafted my #1 (Ravens), but they were off the screen when I chose a DST; so I didn't even see them as an option. NFL.com doesn't give any kind of draft rating or even save the results once the mock is done; so you have to save your own copy if you want to review afterward.
Pick 1.10: Bijan Robinson RB (bye 12). I'm moving Bijan to my overall #4, given the uncertainties at the WR position; so it was a surprise when he fell all the way to #10 here. Even Breece Hall fell to #8. Garrett Wilson went ahead of Justin Jefferson, and Patrick Mahomes was taken at #9, which was a reach, since the next QB (Jalen Hurts) didn't go until Round 4.
Pick 2.01: A.J. Brown WR (bye 5). Only half the teams in this draft went with an RB+WR balance in the first two rounds.
Pick 3.10: DaVonta Smith WR (bye 5). I should have taken Jaylen Waddle here, especially to avoid the duplicate bye week, but somehow I missed that he was available.
Pick 4.01: Rachaad White RB (bye 11). I was planning to take James Cook, but I grabbed White because he was still available. Cook might be sexier, and I only have White ranked one spot higher; so maybe I should think about swapping them, even though NFL.com has Cook ranked ten picks later.
Pick 5.10: D.J. Moore WR (bye 7). Having noticed my error of picking two week-5 bye receivers, I made WR a priority here. I have Moore ranked a spot above Amari Cooper, who was also available. Malik Nabers might be a good upside pick at this spot.
Pick 6.01: Anthony Richardson QB (bye 14). It seemed like QBs were going later in this draft, but after I took Richardson, Kyler Murray, CJ Stroud, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, and Jayden Daniels (whom I've been picking in Round 10) all went before my next pick; so I think this turned out to be the right selection here.
Pick 7.10: George Kittle TE (bye 9). If Brandon Aiyuk gets traded to Washington, this is going to be a steal at this spot.
Pick 8.01: Tank Dell WR (bye 14). I debated between Dell and Chris Godwin here. Maybe the #2 receiver is a better pick than the #3 receiver. Not sure.
Pick 9.10: Chris Godwin WR (bye 11). Because the auto-drafters decided to go on a Kicker/DST run, Godwin came all the way back to me.
Pick 10.01: Rhamondre Stevenson RB (bye 14). Getting a starting RB in Round 10 seems like a good value.
Pick 11.10: Brian Robinson Jr. RB (bye 14). Getting a starting RB in Round 11 seems like an even better value.
Pick 12.01: DeAndre Hopkins WR (bye 5). Getting a starting WR in Round 12 might be the best deal of all.
Pick 13.10: Chiefs DST (bye 6). Mentioned above that the DST sorting in the NFL.com platform is screwy. They have the 49ers first, which is okay, but then the Bears and Bengals are next, I think; so the sorting is just alphabetically.
Pick 14.01: Ka'imi Fairbairn K (bye 14).
Pick 15.10: Taysom Hill TE (bye 12). He's tight-end eligible in NFL.com. Now, if I can just guess which weeks he's going to put up 20 fantasy points.
