Week 1 Lineup Decisions

The NFL season starts tonight! So, I'm not doing any more mock drafts (even though I heard ESPN allows you to draft up until Sunday). Instead, I'm going to go through my three teams and look at the lineup decisions I have to make. Originally (since some of these decisions talk about players on waivers), I thought maybe I shouldn't make all this public, but nobody is reading this anyway, and certainly I don't think anybody from any of my leagues is reading this. If you are, I think you owe it to me to speak up in the comments.

NFL.com PPR+1/2PPA league. Current matchup projected at 129.33 to 121.45, but my opponent hasn't selected a Defense yet; so we're basically even.

QB J.J. McCarthy vs. Justin Fields. I drafted Fields earlier for his upside, but I really don't trust him at all. Not that I have any reason to trust McCarthy, who hasn't even played a regular season game before. Jordan Love is available. Maybe I should just pick him up and drop McCarthy? Or grab Trevor Lawrence, who gets the Carolina defense this week? Update: I decided to grab Love and drop McCarthy.

WR Jaylen Waddle vs. George Pickens. I'm betting on Waddle stepping up, given the Tyreek Hill uncertainty.

Flex Isiah Pacheco vs. TreVeyon Henderson vs. Austin Ekeler vs. George Pickens. Pacheco has to fly to Brazil. Henderson isn't even the starter. Ekeler should be the starter, but could lose goal-line and 3rd-down snaps. Pickens doesn't have the advantage of 1/2 point per attempt in this league. Maybe I should take Ekeler against the NYG defense.

Note that my opponent also didn't draft a kicker and just dropped Jauan Jennings to grab Wil Lutz. I'm not sure who I should drop to grab Jennings, maybe Bhayshul Tuten (even though I renamed my team after him). Or maybe I'll just let him sit a week and he won't get much playing time this week because he hasn't practiced all preseason.

Yahoo PPR league. Current matchup projected at 126.22 to 125.27 (51% favorite) against the reigning League Champion.

QB J.J. McCarthy. My opponent who drafted three QBs (Burrow, Prescott) just dropped Drake Maye to pick up Nick Chubb. What??? I've put in a claim for Maye, but I have the last waiver priority (except for my opponent) and waivers don't run until Sunday morning.

Flex Tetairoa McMillan vs. Ricky Pearsall vs. George Pickens vs. RJ Harvey.  I'm going McMillan here vs. the Jacksonville defense.

TE Tyler Warren vs. Waivers. I drafted Warren and Colston Loveland. Probably Dalton Kincaid or Hunter Henry on waivers will have better Week 1s than my rookies, but I'm going to stick with them for now.

Yahoo 1/2 PPR league. Currect matchup projected 120.66 to 113.12 (58% favorite)

WR Ricky Pearsall vs. George Pickens. Yes, I have Pickens on all three teams and Pearsall on two of them. Given the Jauan Jennings news this morning, I'm going to move Pickens back into the lineup, and we'll watch to see what Pearsall's role is in San Francisco. Right now, I have Achane in the Flex spot; so Pearsall will move to the bench for this week.

Not really any other decisions to make in this league. The Jets Defense is projected .15 higher than my Texans Defense. Not worth even trying to make that move, and the Texans are rated much higher for Week 2 than the Jets (vs Buffalo).

Real Draft: Yahoo.com 10-Team PPR (Position 2) Grade: B

This is a family league, although they are all in-laws. Yahoo has not yet given me a grade on this draft. I'll have to add it later. Quarterbacks and Tight Ends kept being drafted this time, with seven teams landing at least two QBs and seven drafting at least two TEs (including me). I kept seeing QBs that I would be fine starting on the board and people kept taking quarterbacks before my turn; so I waited until the last round to take J.J. McCarthy. Update: Yahoo graded this draft as a B with a projected 4th-place finish at 10-5. 1.02 Bijan Robinson RB  My latest projected stats did not show Christian McCaffrey as RB1 and confirmed Ja'Marr Chase as the best overall pick (+11.4), Bijan (+11.4), Saquon (+11.2), and Jahmyr (+11.0), and the first four picks went exactly like that. 2.09 Drake London WR  Bowers went 2.07 and Kittle went 2.08. Given that 1.01 took Chase, my default plan was to take an RB first and then a WR, but with only London and AJ Brown left from this tier of WR...

Mock Draft: FantasyPros Simulator 10-Team (Position 3) Grade A

Okay, I decided just to do my first Mock Draft this year on FantasyPros.com, having done no preparation so far. This just uses a simulator for the other nine teams and isn't against real people, but it's a good first start, and there's no clock; so I don't have to rush my picks as much. I selected 10-Team PPR with QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, Flex, K, DST. It randomly assigned me draft slot 3. 1.03 WR CeeDee Lamb . Justin Jefferson was the other option here. I decided to go with the one with a more established QB. 2.08 RB De'Von Achane . Ladd McConkey was the WR option. I'm not convinced the Chargers aren't going to go back to the running game. Brock Bowers was available here, but seems a little too rich still. 3.03 TE Trey McBride . McConkey is still on the board. Locking in a top TE seems reasonable. 4.08 WR Tee Higgins . Mock Draft: Live Yahoo 12-Team (Position 8)

Trying another 12-team draft, this time on Yahoo. Obviously, I need to work on my tracking better, as I missed out on picking a tight end altogether, as I was a little dismayed when Tyler Warren disappeared earlier than I expected. Looks like the other eleven teams all drafted two QBs; so I'm glad that I at least got one in Round 10. 1.8 Nico Collins WR (HOU) CeeDee Lamb went 1.6, Justin Jefferson went 1.7. I'm still happy with Nico as the fourth best WR this year. Ashton Jeanty and Derrick Henry are the RB options, and given the depth of WRs in the middle rounds and the lack of RBs, I'm leaning more and more toward RB-RB starts being viable. 2.5 Bucky Irving RB (TB) I like Drake London, Puka Nacua, and AJ Brown as WR options, but I'm now going to try to get at least one RB in the first two rounds. I'm worried about Achane's injury (he went 2.6). Josh Jacobs went 2.4. 3.8 Omarion Hampton RB (LAC) James Cook went 3.6 and suddenly the RB board looked much weaker...
